Unveiling an Unusual Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have discovered a variety of entertaining indie games. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer features a protagonist that is actually a piece of poop trying to make its way to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is straightforward: just use a one button to leap. In numerous challenges, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a market to acquire skins for your dung hero.

Execute your jumps carefully, since one error forces restarting the level. Bounce off air pockets to hurl yourself to new heights, navigate fragile platforms, and interact with buttons to reveal new areas. Gather coins for buying more difficult stages in which gameplay ramps up.

Visually, the demo features eye-catching stages and an amazing background music. Its minimalist graphics with moving abstract forms may remind players of beloved games like Earthbound.

Although tough to think of other games where you play as a piece of feces, gaming have long included toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create throwables from character waste. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as plant food. And of course, this theme appears a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive awards, such as being named best at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. This trial version is ready currently on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on Steam this November.
